The Consortium of the Girona Greenways, a body belonging to the Regional Council of Girona, has created and presented the new Girona greenways Bed&Bike label, a quality stamp for establishments that provide cycle tourism services. This label is well established in countries with a long tradition of cycle tourism, such as Germany and France, and it is the first time such a programme has been proposed in Catalonia or the Spanish State.

The Bed&Bike label provides an assurance that the establishments holding it – particularly accommodation and restaurants – offer suitable services which have been specifically thought out for cycle tourists: single night stays, areas for storing and renting bicycles and for renting and drying equipment, repair kits, appropriate menus for cyclists, useful information for cycle tourists, among others.

Companies who belong to the Nature and Activity Holiday group, and who meet the minimum requirements set, will be able to display the Bed&Bike label on the door of their establishment and will also be listed on this website, where the minimum and optional advantages that must be met can be found. The label will be renewed annually after being reviewed by a specialist from the Consortium.

The logo shows a bicycle with accommodation, creating an easily identifiable and recognisable image. The green colour evokes nature and sustainability and the typography conveys dynamism.

Cycle tourism, a growing tourist sector

This project will help us to raise the quality of the cycling opportunities available in the Girona region and to increase the quantity of European visitors looking for bike friendly destinations. According to studies presented by the European Cyclist Federation (ECF), the cycle tourism sector is one of the fastest growing sectors of the European tourist scene, with almost 2,300 billion trips per year, and one of the most sustainable sectors environmentally, socially and economically speaking.
