On the morning of February 21, 2024, the new route planner of the Girona Greenways Consortium was presented in the Ferran Agulló press room at the Girona Provincial Council. This tool, accessible via www.viesverdes.cat, enables users to visualize the entire network of routes in the Girona region suitable for walking or cycling, plan one-day or multi-stage itineraries, and access all necessary information to organize their trips.

The project is part of a European grant under the NextGeneration EU funds, focusing on modernizing and enhancing the competitiveness of the tourism sector to promote sustainable tourism models.

Key Features

• Comprehensive Route Visualization: Users can explore over 200 kilometers of greenways, including the Pirinexus route and numerous cycling paths and complementary routes.
• Custom Route Planning: The planner allows users to create and save personalized routes, whether for a single day or multiple stages.
• Real-Time Updates: The tool is self-managing, enabling Consortium technicians to update information, add new routes, tourist services, points of interest, and provide alerts or news.
• User-Friendly Interface: Developed using a GIS data management system, the planner offers an intuitive cartographic viewer, available in four languages and optimized for mobile devices.

According to Quim Roca, Deputy of the Girona Provincial Council and Delegate President of the Consortium, the initiative addresses the need to centralize all relevant information in one platform, providing users with everything they need to plan their personalized route. The development of the planner, which began in the second half of 2023, represents an investment of €32,948.30, fully funded by the NextGeneration EU funds.
